Dental Bridges – A Permanent Solution for Missing Teeth

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth (pontics) to the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. Dental bridges restore function, aesthetics, and bite alignment, preventing shifting of remaining teeth and improving overall oral health.

At AA Dental Studio, we offer high-quality dental bridges in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, in the vicinity of Bahria Town, and DHA, using advanced materials and techniques to ensure natural-looking, long-lasting results.

Different Materials Used for Dental Bridges

Dental bridges can be made from various materials, depending on durability, aesthetics, and budget:

  1. Porcelain Bridges – Best for front teeth, offering a natural, tooth-like appearance.
  2. Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Bridges – A combination of metal strength and aesthetic porcelain finish.
  3. Zirconia Bridges – Extremely strong, durable, and highly aesthetic, suitable for front and back teeth.
  4. Gold & Metal Bridges – Highly durable but less aesthetic, used for strong bite forces in molars.
  5. Composite Resin Bridges – More affordable but less durable, usually a temporary solution.

A dental bridge is recommended in the following cases:

  1. Missing One or More Teeth – To fill gaps and restore function.
  2. Preventing Teeth Shifting – Keeps remaining teeth in proper alignment.
  3. Improving Chewing & Speech – Restores normal oral functions.
  4. Cosmetic Enhancement – Replaces lost teeth for a confident smile.
  5. Maintaining Bite Balance – Prevents bite issues due to missing teeth.
  6. Alternative to Dentures – For patients who prefer a fixed option over removable dentures.

1. Initial Consultation & Tooth Preparation

The dentist examines your teeth and takes X-rays. The adjacent teeth (abutments) are reshaped to support the bridge.

2. Digital Impressions & Temporary Bridge
Digital or traditional impressions are taken for a custom-fit bridge.

A temporary bridge is placed to protect the prepared teeth.

3. Permanent Bridge Placement (2nd Visit)
The temporary bridge is removed, and the permanent bridge is checked for fit and comfort.

The bridge is permanently cemented in place.

Procedure Duration: 2 visits over 1-2 weeks (same-day bridges available for some cases).

Benefits of Dental Bridges

  1. Restores Chewing & Speech – Allows you to eat and speak naturally.
  2. Prevents Teeth from Shifting – Maintains proper alignment of remaining teeth.
  3. Improves Aesthetic Appearance – Fills gaps for a confident, natural-looking smile.
  4. Long-Lasting Durability – High-quality bridges last 10-15+ years with good care.
  5. Fixed, Non-Removable Option – More convenient than removable dentures.

Risks of Dental Bridges

  1. Tooth Sensitivity – Temporary hot or cold sensitivity after placement.
  2. Decay Under the Bridge – Poor oral hygiene can lead to cavities on supporting teeth.
  3. Loose or Dislodged Bridge – May occur due to weak cement or excessive biting force.
  4. Gum Irritation – Some patients may experience mild gum soreness.

Solution: Maintain excellent oral hygiene and schedule regular dental checkups.

Consult a dentist if you experience:

  1. Missing teeth affecting your smile or chewing ability.
  2. Difficulty speaking due to gaps in your teeth.
  3. Shifting teeth or bite changes.
  4. A previous bridge that feels loose or uncomfortable.
  5. Broken, decayed, or damaged adjacent teeth that need restoration.
  1. Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste to prevent decay around the bridge.
  2. Floss under the bridge using special floss or interdental brushes.
  3. Avoid sticky and hard foods (e.g., caramel, ice, hard nuts) to prevent damage.
  4. Use an antibacterial mouthwash to maintain gum health.
  5. Schedule regular dental checkups to ensure the bridge remains intact.

Recovery Time: Minimal discomfort for 1-2 days, full adjustment in a few weeks.
